The name Xochicalco means “place of Flowers”, it was founded about 650 AD. by the Olmeca-Xicallanca, a Mayan grup o trader from Campech. The Quetzalcoatl pyramid, the main fortress, several ball courts and an underground solar observatory are the principal attractions for visitors to the site. As the sun passes through its zenith on May 14^th & 15^th and July 28^th & 29^th, a ray of sunlight passes through a narrow shaft in the ceiling of the observatory. The tour may continue to Taxco for a wonderful sightseeing and to admire silver and Mexican handcrafts.
