What is a Tourist Guide?

EN 13809 OF THE EUROPEAN COMMITTEE FOR STANDARDISATION (CEN)
Adopted by WFTGA at its Dunblane, Scotland Convention 2003:

Tourist Guide:A person who guides visitors in the language of their choice and interprets the cultural and natural heritage of an area which person normally possesses an area-specific qualification usually issued and/or recognised by the appropriate authority.

This is distinct from a tour manager defined by CEN as follows:

Tour Manager/Tour Director or Escort: A Person who manages an itinerary on behalf of the tour operator ensuring the programme is carried out as described in the tour operator's literature and sold to the traveller/consumer and who gives local practical information.
Note: Tour managers may or may not be tourist guides as well. They are not trained or licensed to work in specific areas unless they have the proper requirements or legal right, depending on the region.

Rating and giving feedback on a local private tour guide?

67% of the Online users believe and use ratings from real people as a decision criterion for their online purchase. We also believe in user generated ratings and display the Tours based on this criteria. It just makes the Internet more human.

Future tourists, the Guides and also we would appreciate it if you can spend 1-2 minutes of your time after the Tour give a short feedback on the Tour you have experienced.

It is up to you! If you like the Tour and you had a real local experience we think that the Guide will be happy to receive a small appreciation :) Don’t forget to review the tour. A good review will help the Guide to get his next booking and this is also something he would appreciate very much.

What happens if I am not satisfied with a Guide?

Well, we hope this doesn’t happen. But if it really happens try first to talk to the Guide during the Tour. Maybe it is just a misunderstanding of the expectations and the Guide can adjust the Tour.

At Tourmandu we try to make your tour experiences as pleasant as possible, but it is outside our power to promise perfect satisfaction for every tour. Therefore we give you the power to recommend good Guides or warn against bad ones. At the same time, you can benefit from other Travelers' past experiences. So use the rating/review option on Tourmandu after your Tour.
